The Nomadness Project: Dominican Republic

On a NomadnessX Trip to Dominican Republic, the Tribe decided to shoot an idea on what it would be like to take people out of the country for the first time, to get their first passport stamp, simultaneously inducting them into the Tribe. We had a camera, a trip, and an idea. Let's see how this goes....

seven years...youth and wisdom

Jason and I were at Iona filming updates for the Nomadness RV Takeover...needing food, before I turn into my bitchy version of the Hulk, we popped into Avenue Deli, on North Ave. The way these guys throw down my favorite eggplant roll, hasn't changed in a decade.

Eating, Jason and I were going over all the amazing news that's hitting with Nomadness, when I had this orated revelation... "I graduated from Iona seven years ago."

I remember being a senior and seeing those who had graduated just three years prior come back for basketball games, and how awe stricken they were with new students. Well I can officially say, I don't know anyone on that campus anymore, outside of faculty. Even my residents have since graduated, gotten jobs, had babies, and been married.

These two ladies were eating next to us, and one interrupted the conversation between Jason and I.

"I'm graduating in like 83 days and I'm freaking out.'

Honest and candid, the rest of the conversation followed suit. In the midst of all the stress that  is building Nomadness and this RV/College Tour specifically, she played the part of my reminder. As she stated that she saw herself, in seven years, as me...I indeed saw myself, seven years ago, in her.

And if I could write a letter to my past self, giving any advice, it'd be: "Don't worry. It will all work out as it should. Find what you love, and do that sh!t."

She was also my reminder as to why the College Tour was started in the first place, and why it's such an integral part of the nation wide RV Tour.  It's students like her that fuel people like me. If I had someone come to Iona, years ago, and approach me with an initiative like Nomadness, it would have been OVER!!! So for that, I thank her. In the middle of all the craziness, as this thing approaches, I'm reminded...I'm on the right path...Don't stop, keep going.......

girl on fire...

"A girl on fire is loud, and obnoxious, and destructive, and free!"
Her recount of how this song happened, is how I feel when genius hits me for Nomadness........
"She's just a girl and she's on fire. Hotter than a fantasy. Lonely like a highway. She's living in a world and it's on fire. Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away. Oh!! She's got both feet on the ground, and she's burning it down! Whoa!! Got her head in the clouds, and she's NOT BACKING DOWN!"

love hearing her talk about her lone trip through Egypt, Italy, and Greece.....she gets it! Nomadness

NMAN Symposium...yea, the Universe was on overdrive

The Universe has been on overdrive the past 48 hours, and we've been synching up rather flawlessly. It's always dope when you meet strangers, under a series of coincidences-- that clearly didn't have to happen-- and it busts very necessary doors open for you. It gives me a momentary break from picking those same door locks myself. ;-)
This is precisely what happened two nights ago, and less than 12 hours later I was introduced to a number of fellow entrepreneurs and start-up investors at the first ever National Minority Angels Network Symposium. More than worth the $200 registration free, and a clear(er) indication that Nomadness is on the right track. As the Nomadness High Council and I continue making our Pinky and The Brain international moves, it feeds the hunger, calms the nerves, and reinstates the faith that we will get everything we need to properly launch our initiatives in 2013. We got this!!
A few of my favorite quotes from the Symposium yesterday:

'There are 3 keys to business... 1. Make $1 2. Make $2 3. Make $1 million"

'I want to be dumb.' (An investor speaking on simplicity of pitches)
'Marketing is a series of coincidences that results in a transaction.'

'People in hell are thirsty, all I have to do is deliver them ice water."
"Just because an investor will give you $500,000 doesnt mean they are the right investor. It's worse to have taken the money from the wrong investor, than to have never taken the money at all. Look for a passive investor, who will give you the money you need, then let you run your business in your vision."

"You don't ask someone you're on a first date with for $1 million."
"In a bacon and eggs breakfast...the chicken is involved, but the pork is committed. I want the entrepreneur that is the pork." (even the pescitarian in me could appreciate this analogy...ironically, the person who said it is pescitarian too.)
beasting into and through 2013!

high council gratitude...

I am grateful for Nomad•ness Travel Tribe and all that it has brought into my life in 2012. Friendships, relationships, businesships, fearlessness, and confidence. To the High Council ( Kali Blocker Jason Francis Keith Swingle Macario OverZealous James ) the love I have for each of you is individualized, and collective. You all are my rocks of 2012. Two of you have known me for over a decade, and two of you met me officially at the first ever Tribe Meet Up a year ago. Still, our bonds are the same. To family and friends both within and outside the Tribe, who have been supporters since Day one. Whether Kickstarter or words of encouragement at the right time. Respect and Gratitude to you all.

a room of open minds...

I want this feeling again...

I've had a number of conversations over the last few days that have been pushing the Nomadness College Tour into the forefront of the cerebellum.

I'll be reaching out to the Morgan State appointed Nomadness College Reps today and I can't wait to hear their ideas on helping build this outreach leg to the movement.

Shouts to Tribe Member Claire Bear for sending over video and photos from this day on September 17th. Can't believe it's officially been a month. Time is moving.

As I do with the Tribe I'm reaching out to you all. Whether you are a student, faculty member, Study Abroad organizer, Student Activities affiliate, and alum please take the 2 minutes to watch the Nomadness College Tour promo video below and send it to whomever you see fit to help get us to your present or former college campus. Thanks loves!

There is nothing as motivational as eager minds. Please pass along.

i want to scream...

Lately, I've been feeling as though I have to keep many parts of my life under wraps. Waiting for official official announcements in both the professional and personal part of my life (no, I'm not pregnant).

Truth be told, I hate this sh%t. I'm the type that when I'm excited, invigorated, energized, in love with what I'm doing... and the who, what, where, why, and how that's involved with it, I want to sprint to the nearest hilltop and scream it to the world. SO much I want to share. Waiting for the proper time.

Until then I remain muzzled...

What I wil say is that yesterday was one of the best days of my life...and...

Nomad•ness TV is officially two years old today!!!

this moment will be very important in history...

mark my words...

last night was the first meeting of my Tribe Dream Team, the Inner Circle, the Safe Place... ok we're still trying to work out the verbage on exactly who the hell we are.

look, my vision has always been grand, grandiose, massive...but getting 5 other people in on the inner workings and behind the scenes brainpower of Nomad•ness, is a whole other level of takeover...

As Viola Says: 'You can't trade in your dream, for another dream.'

hi. my name is...

I've been dodging the journal this week. Anytime that happens, it's when I need to be writing in it most.

A lot going on...nothing new.

Except, I had a date last night. A really lovely date. Impromptu, I was wisked around NYC with no where to go fast. An amazing sushi spot, led to great conversation over a glass of wine, led to first impressions...

Many times, especially as everything I do gets more notariety, I wonder what people think of me when we first meet in person.

One of my favorite, and cleverly titled books is "What You Think Of Me Is None Of My Business". Though this is true when shit tends to hit the fan in life, and you need moments of self reflection without the 'noise' of others. I think the idea of these types of first personal impressions are different. I have had so many in such a condensed period of time, and it got the brain going.

Tribe Meet Ups in NYC. Date(s). Hosting events. And an on the spot pitch of Nomad•ness TV Series on the job, before my mid-morning cup of hot chocolate.

Tons of first impressions, in a short period of time... I cant help but wonder how it all comes across. The projects, and me.

Nomad•ness is spreading....

I have to give a shout out to a Nomad•ness Travel Tribe member, and HUGE fan from the start, Fabianna.

She hit me today with the coolest random text message screen shot today between her and a recent addition to the Tribe, who has been going IN to solidify his spot in Panama. Which he was successful in, as of yesterday. Don't want to just throw your name out there.

This really warmed my heart, and the 'Evita's Nomads' made me chuckle. I appreciate you guys. It's spreading....
